The New Office bearers for KERALA MERCHANT'S CHAMBER OF COMMERCE for the year  2021-2023 were sworn in on 21.1.2022. The 44th AGM of Kerala Merchants' Chamber of Commerce was held on 29th December 2021 at Town Hall, Ernakulam.


A three Member delegation of Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce attended the 94th AGM of FICCI at Delhi on 17th & 18th  December 2021. The members who attended this Meeting are KMCC Secretary Mr Solomon Cheruvathoor, KMCC Treasurer V E Anwar and KMCC Womens wing President Mrs Manju Anwar.






Hon. Minister of Law, Industries and Commerce . Sri. P Rajeev , visited KMCC on 19.9.2021 and had a good interaction with the members.  It was a good platform for the traders to meet the  Minister and present their issues.

The Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce on 17.12.2018 organised a meeting with the representatives from major trade bodies in Ernakulam in an effort to tackle the frequent hartals in Kerala which is hurting the business community at large. Welcoming the gathering, KMCC President Mr. V A Yousuf urged all the trade bodies to join hands in this cause and to keep their shops open on Hartals from now on.

The meeting decided to form a co-ordination committee to formulate actions plans (which includes all the trade bodies in Ernakulam), to support the business community to tackle hartals. The meeting concluded that Ernakulam is one of the busiest cities in the State and if Ernakulam can lead by example, the ripple effect will be evident in the entire State within no time. It was also suggested to write open letters to all political parties to understand the situation and to be humane to the business community.  

Representatives from Textile & garments association, Gold & Silver merchants association, Paper traders association, Sanitary & tiles dealers association, Hardware & paint dealers association, Steel traders association, Aluminium dealers association, Bakers association, Hotel & Restaurant association, Penta menka shops association, GCDA complex, Kaloor merchants association, oil merchants association, Duty paid traders association, Kerala Electric Traders association, Paper bag manufacturers association, Kerala Chamber of Commerce, Travel Mart, Mather Bazar attended the meeting.

The Malaysian Consul General Mr. Muzafar Shah visited the Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce on the 10th of December 2018. The visit was aimed at improving trade relations between India and Malaysia. Various suggestions and queries with respect to Building materials, Food processing machinaries, household products, furnitures etc came up during the discussion and the Consul General assured the gathering that the Government of Malaysia is organising various trade fares for specific sectors which the Indian businessmen could take advantage of. He opined that eventhough promoting import to India is his primary goal, he would be only happy to cater to our exporting needs als well. He added that the Indian businessmen should make use of the services of the Consulate than to approach businesses in Malaysia directly as there is a risk of fraud. Mr. Shah added that the Consul can ensure that only trust worthy businesses will interact with the Indian Businessmen while visiting Malaysia. 

KMCC Youth Wing Past President Mr. Niaz Ibrahim delivered the welcome address. KMCC Vice-President Mr. Jos Koothoor was also present on the occasion. 


 

The Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce in association with the Legal Metrology department organised an awareness session on the 22nd of November 2018 at the KMCC conference Hall. 

The officials discussed in detail regarding the procedures that a businessman/trader should follow while running an establishment. Things like re-certifiying weighing scales and metrers every year, which many businessmen forgets and could attract penalties were informed to the gathering. In his presidential address Mr.V A Yousuf opined that Legal Metrology is an area where businessmen does not put too much attention unless an official turns up one day to penalise. He added that the business community should be updated with the regulations of the Government without which survival will be a hard task.

General Secretary Mr. K M Mohammed Sageer proposed the vote of thanks. 


The District labor officer(Enforcement), Mr.Mohammed Siyadh, in a seminar conducted on 11.10.2017 at KMCC Conference Hall, delivered an informative speech on labor law amendments relating to Kerala Shops & Establishments & Wage Protection System for employees.

KMCC had taken up the issue of rehabilitation/compensation package for traders in North Banerji Road region evacuated for widening of Banerji Road in connection with Metro Rail Construction since November 2012. In the meeting convened by Mr. alias George M.D of KMRL at his office on 08.05.2017 in connection with the inauguration of Metro Rail since Shri G. Karthikeyan , Vice President brought to the notice of the authorities that the compensation package eligible for the traders evicted for metro rail construction is not yet allowed and also verbally warned that if the evictees hold a protest on the date of inauguration perhaps KMCC cannot dissuade them from the attempt. President  Sri V A Yousuf & General Secretary K M Mohamed Sageer also attended the meeting. Afterwards letters were sent to Chief Minister, District Collector and M.D of KMRL on the above matter.        Further on 14.05.2018 a meeting of the claimant traders who were evicted was held and announced about the Government order, Granting R & r Package to the 28 merchants evicted as part of widening of Banerji Road from Ernakulam Town ROB to Madhava Pharmacy as a preparatory work of the Kochi Metro Rail Project – Sanction accorded – orders issued  . President Mr. V.A.Yousuf, General Secretary K.M.Mohammed Sageer , Treasurer T.D.Suresh Babu, Vice president G.Karthikeyan and other Branch President & Secretaries and 25 Merchants participated in the meeting.

The youth wing of KMCC has been conducting Day & Night Indoor Cricket Tournament since 2001. Now it has achieved an all recognition & popularity. The 17th Day & Night Indoor cricket Tournament was launched on 27th July 2017, which was inaugurated by Mr. Althaf Jahanger, the Executive Director of NEST group, at 9am at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium Kadavanthara. The function was presided ever by Shri.G.Karthekeyan Vice President and the executive committee members of KMCC, its branches and youth wing attended. The 4-day long tournament, which was played by 48 teams ended with the final match at 7pm on 30th July. In the closing ceremony Rock Lee, General Manager of VIVO Kerala, participated as the Chief guest and gave away the Cash Prizes & Trophies to the Winners.


In a function held at General Hospital, Ernakulam 500 bed sheets were donated for use in the wards. Vice President G.Karthikeyan handed over the bed sheets to Dr.Avitha, Medical Superintendent. General Secretary Mr.Mohammed Sageer, Vice President Jose Koothoor were also present at the occasion.


A joint meeting of officials of Fire & Rescue services & General Insurance was conducted on 01.02.2018 at KMCC Conference Hall to educate the traders on prevention of fire accidents & insurance protection from fire mishaps. Shri Unnikrishnan station officer at Fire Station Kadavanthara, Mr.Ashokan, Daniel Manager of United India Insurance Co.Ltd, Shri.Ravi Dy.Manager of Oriental Insurance Company & Shri.Sasikumar, Development officer of Oriental Insurance Company spoke in the session, giving valuable information.


A cordial meeting of the Advocates in the legal panel formed by KMCC & the member of legal committee was held in KMCC conference Hall on 19.01.2018.


On 21.10.2017 an interactive session with Honorable Mayor of Kochi Shri.Soumini Jain was conducted to find solutions for various problems in the city faced by the traders. Office bearers of KMCC & branches sub-committee conveners, representatives of Ernakulam Market Stall Owners Association, Koluthara Shop Owners Welfare Association and Mather Bazar Broadway Lane Shop Owners Association attended the meeting and discussed the issues with Mayor.


On 05.10.2017 an awareness class on R.T.I was conducted for members Adv.D.B.Binu president, R.T.I Kerala Federation, gave valuable information’s regarding the Act. Adv.John joseph, Chairman of Voters Alliance also attended the meeting and explain the activities of that form.


On 31.08.2017 Onam kits were distributed among the poor & the needy under the auspicious of youth wing, which is being conducted since the past 10 years. The function presided over by V.A.Yousuf President was inaugurated by Shri.C.N.Mohanan, Chairman of G.C.D.A.


As in the previous years KMCC and its branches & youth wing celebrated 71st Independence day on 15th August 2017. At 9.15 am in the compound of Alliance Residency in Marine Drive when the office of KMCC is functioning the President V.A.Yousuf hosted the national flag. The executive committee members present at the venue saluted the national flag & sweets were distributed in the premises. Afterwards a meeting was conducted at the office & breakfast was given to the participants.


KMCC has been giving up excellence Awards to children of members and children of staff of members establishment for their achievements in educational field, since more then 20 years. On 13th August 2017 educational awards function was held in KMCC conference hall. Honorable vice chancellor of CUSAT, Dr.J.Latha participated as the dignified guest. Prof V.J.Antony Rtd. Principal of Cochin College gave counseling to award winners. Shri. Mathew Cherian and Shri.P.M Varghese winners of National/State Level Teachers Awards, Mr.B.Siddharth, holder of 15th rank in all India level in Civil Service Exam, M.s.Rosna Paul, 1st rank holder in Degree/P.G Exams were honoured. 36 children won the awards – gold medals, mementos and Merit certificates.


On 08.06.2017 an awareness class on G.S.T for traders was conducted at the Conference Hall of KMCC. The session was inaugurated by Mr. Basuram Narayan Karthik, Deputy Commissioner , Commercial Taxes Ekm. Mr. Raghunath Asst.Commissioner gave valuable guidance. Video demonstration was also given by concerned officials. Around 100 persons attended the class which was entirely free of charge. On 14.06.2017 office bearers of KMCC participated as invitees in the Seminar on G.S.T conducted by ASSOCHEM at Taj Gateway Hotel. Mr. Pullela Nageshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise & Customs delivered the Key-note address. An awareness class on G.S.T was conducted by KMCC on 22.06.2017 at C.S.I Immanuel church parish hall. Shri .P.J.Johny, Charted Accountant, delivered the informative speech and cleared the doubts of the participants. Further on 23.06.2017 a seminar on G.S.T was conducted jointly with FRICC at C.S.I Immanuel church parish hall. The office bearers of KMCC attended the function on 01.07.2017 at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in which state Finance Minister Dr. T.M.Thomas Issac inaugurated G.S.T implementation. Mr. Reghunath, Asst.Commissioner of Commercial Taxes cleared the doubts of traders regarding E-filing of G.S.T Returns in a class conducted in KMCC Conference hall on 09.08.2017 Further On 18.03.2017 Shri. P.J.Johny, charted accountant, held a class in KMCC Conference Hall to classify the doubts of traders related to E-filing of G.S.T Returns. On 15.11.2017 K.M.Mohammed Sageer General Secretary and K.M.John Taxation Secretary attended the meeting of G.S.T facilitation committee held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner Thevara.


Kerala Merchants Union ‘s Relief initiative inaugurated by Opposition Leader Sri V S Achudhanandhan and Presidential address by Minister Sri. Dominic Presentation by donating eight houses to Tsunami Relief patients ,   at  Chellanam.
